*New transference/resistance group has been formed.
Supervisory group :
Patient Retention - Working with Resistance - Substance Abuse - Harm Reduction - Practice Building
· Patient retention: What are the interventions that help patients feel connected to the therapist and those that disturb this connection? What interventions are most effective with preoedipal patients?
How to work with the treatment destructive resistance to help patients stay in treatment, prevent acing-out and premature termination.
- Suicidal patients induce anxiety in most therapists. What is the best way to respond to suicidal patients and suicidal threats?
- Many of our clients are involved in some problematic substance use. Workshop content will include harm reduction and modern analytic approaches with people who experience problems involving drugs and alcohol. Comparisons will be made to abstinence only treatment.
· Building and sustaining a practice:Advertising, setting fees, frequency of sessions, cost effective ways of integrating group therapy into your practice, and telephone therapy.
*New transference/resistance group has been formed.
The objective of the transference/resistance group for therapists is to help increase awareness of transference and countertransference reactions. Most stalemates in treatment come from the therapist's countertransference problems. In the transference/resistance group the object is to say everything out load that you would not say when with a client. Through this process those thoughts and feelings become integrated in the conscious part of the therapist rather then suppressed and/or repressed.
Speaking out in a group is challenging, yet one of the most effective learning experiences a therapist can have. We can be more effective with patients by resolving resistances to saying everything. Additionally, therapists learn what interventions are helpful through the interactions with group members in a supportive accepting environment.
